| Biography |
Hans Poelzig (b. Berlin, Germany 1869; d. Berlin 1936) Hans Poelzig was born in Berlin, Germany in 1869. He graduated from the architecture program at the Technische Hochschule in Berlin-Charlottenburg where he later taught as a full professor. In 1899 Peolzig moved to Breslau where he taught at the Academy until he became its director. A distinctive architect, Poelzig designed several projects in an unique, expressionistic mode. At the end of the First World War he became closely associated with the general artistic movement of Expressionism. Active as the vice president of the German Werkbund in post-war Germany, he contributed both residential and commercial projects to Germany's reconstruction efforts after 1923. Poelzig died in Berlin in 1936.
