| Biography |
Martorell/Bohigas/Mackay (est. 1951) Josep Martorell and Oriol Bohigas graduated from the Barcelona School of Architecture in 1951 after which they established an office together. The two were also founding members of "Grupo R". In 1962 Mackay, who graduated from the Northern Polytechnic in London in 1958, qualified in Spain and joined the firm. The architecture of MBM depends on the adaptation and reuse of traditional Spanish forms. It also borrows from the artistic and architectural traditions of Antonio Gaudi and "Modernismo". The firm produces culturally specific works that focus on "realism" or the acceptance of the world as it actually presents itself and not as we might wish it to be. The firm has concentrated on housing both in the private and public sector.
