| Discussion | Chancellery Palace Commentary
"Chancellery Palace, Rome, adjoining S. Lorenzo in Damaso, (was) built 1483-1517, first by Bregno and then by Bramante. Designed for Cardinal Riario, this enormous palace became the papal chancellery. The façade is made of travertine taken from the Colosseum. The 44 columns of the courtyard came from the theatre of Pompeii." Henri Stierlin. Comprende l'Architecture universelle. p193. | ||||||
