| Discussion | Globe Theater Commentary
The original Globe Theatre, where many of Shakespeare's plays were presented for the first time, was damaged in a fire in 1613, and destroyed in the English Civil War of 1643. The historical threater was recently reconstructed on a site near the location of the original, and the new Globe Theater is in regular use for live theatrical performances. — Andrew Gumbel, London, p334. Built in 1599 to house Shakespeare's company, The King's Men, and burnt to the ground when the thatch caught alight during a performance of Henry VII in 1613, the Globe was rebuilt in the 1990s due to the inspiration of Sam Wanamaker. — Jane Greenwood | ||||
