"The new center comprises three buildings: Victorian Gothic Chancellor Green library, designed by William Potter in 1873 as the first free-standing library at Princeton; a wing known as East Pyne that was added by Potter in 1897; and the Scheide Caldwell House, a new two-story wood building that, along with the adjacent Joseph Henry House, forms a humanities courtyard and a new entrance to the campus from Nassau Street. The architects restored the original historic fabric of the existing buildings to accommodate contemporary programs. Windowed lounges on the upper floors give users access to a new, ring-shaped circulation pattern, while new language labs and a large lecture hall were located below grade.
