The Armory was built by the Kentish Guards after they received a thousand dollar ($1,000) grant for the Rhode Island state government under Governor King after the Guards supported the King Government in the Dorr Rebellion on 1842. The Dorr Rebellion was, initally, an attempt to reform the state constitution lead by Thomas Dorr, a leading constitutional lawyer of the time; this reform effort, however, became physical when Dorr's supporters became inpatient. This lead to a military conflict in Providence, a dangerous riot in Pawtucket and a final confrontation in Chepachet, all in 1842. The Armory is labelled as one of the few "Dorr War Armories" by local historians. The Armory may be visited on Tuesday nights, when the Kentish Guards Militia meets and on Wednesday night, when their fife and drum corps rehearses. Further information is available on their website.
