Building Details
Length 35 meters
Width 85 meters

Built after the Franco- Prussian war. Built in the Romano- Byzantine style. The Dome is 83 meters high, and the cupola is 55 meters high and 16 meters wide. Made primarily of Travertine stone, which constantly exudes calcite, and allows the Basilica to remain white. Sacre Coeur rests over clay and old gypsum mines, so during its construction, huge pillars were sunk into the earth to keep it above ground. Unlike many other Catholic institutions of the time, the Basilica is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Christ instead of the Virgin Mary.
