| Notes | Restoration and preservation of the first (1843) iron, steam-powered, screw-propelled, ocean-going ship. A glass plate at the water-line forms the roof of a giant airtight chamber surrounding the ship's lower hull. A thin layer of water covering the glass makes the ship appear to be floating. |
