Notes Architect William Cleere designed the original 1676 house for Sir Richard Temple. Phase II comprised repairing the roofs and restoring the south front's central pavillion, including the oval Marble Hall.

Other Details The estate covers 325 acres and contains 6 lakes and 32 garden temples.

The Marble Hall has scagliola columns, marble floors, and an elliptical domed ceiling with a Roman frieze. Most of the dome's 160 coffers have individual plasterwork designs.

Phase II used 7.5 miles of softwood boards, 80 tons of sand-cast lead, 30 tons of Westmoreland green slate, and 2 tons of copper sheet.
